New antenna tester simplifies maintenance

Antenna testerOur new antenna tester simplifies and speeds up checks carried out by maintenance personnel. Correct operation of Azdec infrared antennas can now be quickly and easily verified by means of the new hand-held tester. Holding the tester 1-2m away from each antenna in turn, the user can immediately see from the yellow LED indicator whether or not it is transmitting. Receive functionality is then confirmed by simply pressing the TEST RX button to emit a test signal, which is received by the antenna and then retransmitted back to the tester, activating a green LED.
These checks may be carried out as part of standard weekly or monthly maintenance schedules or at any other time in the unlikely event of a problem being reported by the operators. The unit is available in both single-channel and multi-channel versions to suit the different types of Azdec systems in use. Housed in a sturdily constructed flame-retardant ABS case with a handy belt clip, the antenna tester has overall dimensions of just 170 x 85 x 50mm and is compatible with any Azdec battery charger unit – so no additional equipment is needed in order to charge it.

Compact battery pack2Expanding our range of accessories is a new compact battery pack that is significantly smaller and lighter than the standard unit yet delivers the same battery life.
Typically deployed in naval or commercial maritime applications, the Azdec system provides totally secure, interference-free, short-range communications while allowing operators to roam away from their base positions, unhindered by any trailing wires. There are no RF emissions and the infra-red signals cannot be intercepted by any conventional method, so it is impossible for anyone to jam the transmissions or eavesdrop on what is being said.
Whereas the standard battery pack features large control knobs for users who may need to wear anti-flash gloves, the new compact version will find favour wherever there is no such requirement – especially in confined spaces or when operators are particularly mobile. It is ideal for use in conjunction with the Azdec marine safety helmet or peer-to-peer headset. The compact battery pack provides up to 8 hours’ usage from a single charge and is compatible with any Azdec charger. After 500 recharge cycles, it can be returned to the factory for complete refurbishment, including replacement of cells, any necessary repairs and comprehensive testing.

Designed for belt mounting, this robustly constructed unit incorporates an on/off switch, a channel selector, a push-to-speak button, a volume control and a socket for a right-angled headset connector. The battery pack measures 13.0 x 9.0 x 3.5cm and weighs just 0.3kg.

Marine safety helmet offers secure infra-red comms capability

Based on a Gecko open-face helmet, this new product utilises Azdec infra-red technology to provide totally secure, interference-free, short-range communications for a variety of naval or commercial maritime applications.
The Azdec system frees operators to roam away from their base positions, unhindered by any trailing wires. There are no RF emissions and the infra-red signals cannot be intercepted by any conventional method, so it is impossible for anyone to jam the transmissions or eavesdrop on what is being said.
The new helmet can either be incorporated in a standard Azdec installation, which would cover a fixed area using a base station and multiple antennas, or configured as a peer-to-peer set without any additional equipment, enabling two users to talk directly to each other.
Supplied with a standard Azdec battery pack providing up to 8 hours’ operating time, the waterproof safety helmet features a face visor, acoustic protection, a noise-cancelling microphone, double- or single-sided headphones, and a clip-on waterproof push-to-talk button for ease of operation.
Like all the elements of an Azdec system, the helmet employs only low-level infra-red digital encoding technology and carries a Class 1 product designation as defined by the EN 60825-1 standard, which means that it presents no ocular or other health hazard to users. In addition, it is completely immune to radio, radar and electrical noise and has no effect on sensitive electronic equipment, flammable atmospheres or munitions.


The Azdec marine safety helmet is suitable for use on RHIBs, flight decks, vehicle decks, RAS areas or in any internal or external area where mobility and safety are paramount.
